Wisconsin Building at Sunset, 1953 Wisconsin Building at Sunset

Background

The Wisconsin Building occupies the corner of State Street and North Carroll Street. It therefore has one of the more strategic locations as it sits at the corner of the square which leads to State Street which is the main commercial hub and also leads to the university. It was built around 1901. In 1953 it housed the State Commercial Bank. It is one of many triangular buildings which give downtown Madison a unique character. While the building is mostly faced in brick, there is a great deal of stone masonry on the ground floor. The stone columns, arranged in pairs have an exagerated taper which I believe was done to exagerate the perceived height of the columns and ground floor from the viewpoint of passing pedestrians.

Model References

The model was constructed using Autodesk Maya v8 with photographs used as references. No building blueprints were used so the model is an approximation of the actual building. The primary reference photographs used were those I had taken on a vacation to Madison in 2002.
